Rising Debrief for Integration Owners: Turning Announcements Into an Architecture Backlog

Oct 15
2 min read

Workday Rising closes today in Las Vegas. By tomorrow, most attendees will be back at their desks with notes, photographs of slides and a long list of ideas. This edition is for the people who own integrations and architecture. It deliberately avoids summarising announcements, since Workday publishes those itself. Instead it looks at what to do with them.

START WITH A RULE WORKDAY STATES ITSELF

Workday's announcements carry a clear reminder that features not yet available are subject to change and may not arrive as planned, and that customers should base purchase decisions on what is currently available. Treat that as a working rule for your backlog. Everything you heard belongs in one of two groups: available now, or announced.

FOUR TESTS FOR EVERY ITEM

  1. What data does it need? Name the fields and the feeds that deliver them.

  2. Which systems does it touch? List the integrations, reports and third-party tools on either side of it.

  3. Who owns it? One name, not a team.

  4. What control applies? Security scope, monitoring and a way to switch it off.

If an item cannot pass these tests on paper, it is not ready for a pilot.

WHY THE KEYNOTE TRACKS MATTER

Rising offered role-based keynotes for HR, finance and IT. Agents do not respect that split. A close or payroll agent touches finance controls, HR data and IT security in one run. Your backlog should carry a joint owner from each function, and integration is the natural place for them to meet.

THE COST QUESTION

Sana for Workday and the Sana Self-Service Agent are available through Flex Credits, with an allocation included in the subscription. Usage-based AI means somebody needs to watch consumption against value. Without a named owner, usage can grow faster than anyone's view of what it delivers.

BUILDING A BACKLOG A SMALL TEAM CAN WORK THROUGH

Limit it to the three items with the clearest business case. Give each a start date, an owner and a measure of success you can check in three months. Park the rest on a watch list reviewed monthly.

NEXT EDITION

We will look at the health of the feeds agents depend on, starting with payroll, benefits and reporting.
